Although Poland won substantial concessions – notably delaying the introduction of a new voting system for member states until 2017 – Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczysnki said he wanted to renegotiate the package brokered at the summit meeting by Angela Merkel the German chancellor and Nicolas Sarkozy the French president. Kaczynski said at a news conference in Warsaw that the voting system issue was far from settled. The problem he said concerned a voting mechanism that would allow member states to delay an EU decision even if they did not have enough votes to block one. “We have to finally resolve this issue at the intergovernmental conference” Kaczynski said.

‘We have reached agreement regarding the financing of a pipeline from the Norwegian continental shelf to Poland’ Stoltenberg told reporters during a visit to Poland without giving details. ‘There are agreements regarding the participation of Polish companies in such a pipeline’ noted Stoltenberg at a joint press conference with his Polish opposite number Jaroslaw Kaczynski. ‘What is now remaining is to reach an agreement on the commercial terms’ Stoltenberg added. Kaczynski said that Poland was ‘achieving progress in terms of diversifying our natural gas supplies.
