Vietnam Learns Lessons from Poland’s Solidarity
Epoch Times – The Epoch Times – Aug 26, 2007
Trung Doan general secretary of CPVW said there were many similarities between Poland under communism and communist Vietnam today. Solidarity members endured arrests kidnaps even assassinations he said and these were all things activists in Vietnam were also enduring. “In Poland they [The Communist Party] also used blackmail and threat same in Vietnam. They put in infiltrators in the independent organisations same in Vietnam. They used propaganda machines state-run television state-run newspapers” he said. “bviously the two countries are different but the lessons we can learn there are quite a few parallels. Changing Europe Solidarity united the many small workers parties who challenged the Polish regime at great risk and to their peril during the 1970's and 80's… What they do is quietly take away the organiser” he said. Mr Doan said they were hoping to raise funds through Mr Chojecki's tour so that they too would be able to support the families of those fighting for basic rights in Vietnam. Mr Chojecki said there were over 200000 Vietnamese living in Poland and the Poles had an obligation to support others who were struggling under repressive communist regimes. “We had support from the democratic world. The Poles must pay back the debt. We must work for the future for a free Vietnam” he said.
