PKN Poland’s largest company by revenues said the monthly base wage will rise by 280 zlotys for each of its 4750 workers starting from Jan 2008. Every employee will also receive a bonus of 500 zlotys in December. Poles have been clamouring for higher wages as the economy’s fastest growth in a decade last year pushed unemployment lower creating shortages of skilled workers in some parts of the country.
Czech Poland leaders to boycott lympic opening

The Czech president Vaclav Klaus says those who voted to give the Games to China should not now be surprised that “China is what it is”. He and some Czech ministers will boycott the ceremony. The Polish prime minister Donald Tusk says given China’s conduct “the presence of politicians at the Games’ inauguration seems inappropriate”. He’ll try to convince other European Union countries that they should speak out more strongly on the issue of Tibet.

Brad Schumer just smiled and shrugged when asked why he was closing Poland Furniture Accessories. ?We?re just going to take a different path in our lives? said Schumer 52 of Poland who owns the store with his sister Margie Brady. Schumer said the closing of the Boardman-Poland Road store has nothing to do with the store?s revenue or with the area economy. ?There?s nothing behind it really. It?s just time to move on? he said.
