Forget Yank tanks however Chevy in Europe is effectively the old Daewoo brand best known for its small Korean-made budget cars – just the sort of wheels to have enough mass-market appeal to weather a financial storm. The five- and three-door replacements for Chevy’s best-selling Kalos are built in Chevrolet’s new Warsaw plant in Poland. The five-door is on sale on May 24 with the three-door available in June. You can see that a lot of love has gone into this little car.

CANTN ? Making her first varsity start Boardman freshman Alexandra DiDomenico threw a no-hitter to lead the Spartans softball team to an 11-1 win Thursday over Canton McKinley. Two errors kept DiDomenico from a perfect game. DiDomenico allowed no walks and struck out seven against the 17 batters she faced. She also drove in two runs. Junior Shannon Morrow had two home runs and an RBI single for four RBIs for Boardman (7-3 2-3 Federal League).

Wajda’s father was among the 22000 officers to be murdered and thrown into mass graves by Stalin’s NKVD secret police at Katyn and other killing sites. It is not surprising that Poland’s most renowned director has been waiting most of his 82 years to make his latest film. Katyn might not be Wajda’s greatest film — it is a little confusing over-allusive and traditional in form — yet it is a moving account of one of the ugliest chapters in Poland’s tormented history. “I’m still looking for my father’s file” says Wajda sitting behind a desk at his production company in Warsaw a gentle man with pale blue eyes smiling behind glasses. “I asked Russia’s chief prosecutor on what legal basis my father had been shot and was told they couldn’t answer because they couldn’t find the file. ”In 1939 Poland was invaded almost simultaneously by Russia and Germany… “I’m still looking for my father’s file” says Wajda sitting behind a desk at his production company in Warsaw a gentle man with pale blue eyes smiling behind glasses. “I asked Russia’s chief prosecutor on what legal basis my father had been shot and was told they couldn’t answer because they couldn’t find the file. ”In 1939 Poland was invaded almost simultaneously by Russia and Germany. Wajda’s film opens with a scene recorded in one of the personal diaries that is the basis of the screenplay in which two hordes of Poles meet on a bridge as they flee from the Germans on one side and the Russians on the other trapped just like the whole country between two totalitarian dictatorships. n the bridge nobody wants to turn back because both options look equally bleak. The Russians arrested and in the spring of 1940 executed the cream of the Polish officer corps many of whom thought they were going to be redeployed to fight the Germans. “Most were reserve officers” says Wajda “doctors university professors lawyers.
