Poland US sign MU on special forces co-op

19 (Xinhua) — Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich and his U. counterpart Robert Gates signed a memorandum of understanding here Thursday aiming to boost cooperation between the two countries’ special forces. Gates who is in the southern Polish city of Krakow for the NAT Defense Ministers’ Meeting said during the signing ceremony that the deal marked a new era for military cooperation between the United States and Poland. The two countries share some common interests and they are inherent partners said Gates who also spoke highly of the role played by Polish troops in Afghanistan.

Skolimowska winner of the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney lympics died Wednesday in Portugal after collapsing in training Poland’s track and field federation said Thursday. “This is a great tragedy to us” the federation’s director general Jan Slezak said. Slezak said the cause of death was not immediately clear pending an autopsy. He said Skolimowska had complained recently of “muscle problems” but would not elaborate. n Wednesday Skolimowska suddenly felt ill and was rushed to the hospital in Vila Real de Santo Antonio where she died despite efforts to resuscitate her.
Georgia to send 100 soldiers to Afghanistan

Grigol Vashadze says in comments broadcast by Georgia’s Rustavi television that soldiers will be deployed in the near future. Vashadze spoke during a trip to Krakow Poland where he’s attending a meeting of NAT defense ministers.
