In a note to EU farm ministers meeting in Brussels Polandcomplained of increasing disparity between producer andconsumer food prices as well of “supermarket clout” forcingsuppliers to cut their prices reducing farmers’ incomes. “The observed decline in the prices of agriculturalproducts which is not offset by the reduction of productioncosts leads to the deterioration of farmers’ financialsituation” said the note obtained by Reuters. “It should be emphasised that despite a decline in pricesin the agricultural sector the prices paid by consumers arestill high or are not reduced. Many farmers give upagricultural production as it is not sufficiently profitable”it said. Consumers as well as farmers and producers were hit badlyby the price gap — above all in the EU’s newer membercountries where food purchases accounted for a significantportion of total expenditure in low-income households thestatement said.

The tomb of Yitzhak Meir Alter (1798-1866) and his grandson Yehudah Arie Leib located in the Jewish cemetery in Góra Kalwaria a small town near Warsaw known in Yiddish as Ger was desecrated with a swastika and the epithet "Jude Raus. "The Foundation for the Preservation of Jewish Heritage in Poland reported the vandals also blocked the entrance door to the tomb with construction foam. The tomb is a place of pilgrimage for followers of the Gerrer Chasidic dynasty which was founded by Yitzhak Meir Alter. The foundation also reported that stones reportedly were thrown at a bus transporting visitors who had just been to the cemetery.
